I didn’t even realize, but two weeks ago I wrote the 200th feature in this series. That counts four years of New Shows + Movies by Women. I feel pretty proud of that, and I hope it continues to help people find shows and films that don’t always get the same platforming and publicity as work by men.
Let’s get right into it. This week, new shows by women come from Canada, Spain, and the U.K.. New movies by women come from Austria, France, and the U.S.
NEW SERIES
Orphan Black: Echoes (AMC+)
showrunner Anna Fishko
The sequel series to “Orphan Black” takes place 37 years after the original, in 2052. Krysten Ritter plays Lucy, who has trouble remembering who she is after a medical procedure, and seems to meet a younger version of herself.
Showrunner Anna Fishko previously wrote and produced on “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Pieces of Her”.
The premiere of “Orphan Black: Echoes” is out on AMC+, with a new episode every Sunday for a total of 10.

Lady Jane Grey was Henry VIII’s niece and claimed the throne of England for nine days in 1553. As Catholics fought the Protestant choice, Grey fell out of favor, was imprisoned, and executed the following year. “My Lady Jane” re-imagines this bit of history as a more empowering tale in what is described as “’Bridgerton’ meets ‘The Boys’”. Emily Bader stars.
Showrunner Meredith Glynn previously wrote and produced on “Supernatural” and “The Boys”.
Jamie Babbit directs 5 of the 8 episodes. The director of “But I’m a Cheerleader” has been nominated for five Emmies for her work on “Only Murders in the Building” and “Silicon Valley”, as well as a Hugo for “Russian Doll”.
All 8 episodes of “My Lady Jane” are out on Amazon Prime.

A woman is extorted for her husband’s financial improprieties. She goes on the run to Spain, taking her mother and daughter with her. Eva Longoria stars.
